/ March 7, 2012I like your comment about students being good for the area. Don’t like 6 room cottages, but that can be fixed. As for the comments about students being loud and such, I think that is a stereotype.
I have met some very thoughtful students and very few of the stereotypical ones. My Improv studio mates who are students or recent grads are some of the most delightful people I know. I would rather have them than another retirement community.

/ March 7, 2012I live along Homestead Road and I want to make it clear that the issue is not student housing, but dense housing. Where this developer is proposing to add 850 (not 809) cars, Homestead Road is two lanes. Directly across from this site a mixed use development has already been approved for development (Bridgepoint). Also directly up the street from this location a town house community has been approved for development. The residents of Homestead Road are in favor of development but it has to be realistic and the infrastructure along Homestead can not handle that significant an increase in load. Chapel Hill needs single family housing as badly as student housing so why not fit the solution to the need?

/ March 7, 2012I argue that the stretch of Homestead Road in question is inadequate for the development that is already there. Add 800 more cars into the mix and I think you’re talking about an untenable and unsafe situation.
