I’d also include one other item:

Yates Building Firestorm: When a group of self-proclaimed anarchists, some of whom were associated with Occupy Chapel Hill, decided to take over the Yates Bldg with plans to convert it into public space, Chapel Hill police forcibly evacuated the squatters, including 2 journalists. Jim Neal, a past candidate for US Senate, petitioned the town council for an external review board, but that request was passed on to staff, while responsibility for the review was passed on to a newly appointed Community Policing Advisory Board (which is staffed by the local PD).

    Terri,

Obviously, that story pales in comparison to this blog’s manufactured outrage over Penny Rich’s involvement with a school fundraiser that – Fox News style – featured a false narrative created with Matt Cz’s help and no ackowledgment of the breach of journalistic ethics that this revealed. All anyone needs to know about this faux scandal is elesewhere on this blog.

  3. and no mention of this blog’s endorsement of Tim Sookram for mayor, which clearly shows how on top of things CHW is……..

Mark, I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “the pot calling the kettle black.” You’ve taken it to new levels of creativity with your response here. BTW, I’ve heard that Matt C pulls the wings off butterflies just for the fun of it.

We’ll take news tips about malfeasance from anyone.

    Cam,

At least endorsing Sookram wasn’t illegal.

    Terri —
I checked with the mayor about the Community Policing Advisory Board being staffed by the police department. Here’s what he had to say: “The Chief staffs the Committee and the Council does appoint the members. We did so at the June 27th meeting. We solicited recommendations for the Committee from the citizen work group that was working with the Chief on community policing. This is similar to the recommendations we get when we make appointments to other boards.”

So it sounds like citizens do have input on who sits on the board; it’s not like the police chief is hand-picking only people who will support him blindly.
